Discover Tomorrow Through Children’s Eyes at the Eden Project’s Latest Exhibition

Starting on Friday, May 24, the Eden Project will unveil a groundbreaking film exhibition that delves into the future as envisioned by children.

The work of the distinguished British artist, Cornelia Parker, “THE FUTURE (Sixes and Sevens)” presents an immersive and reflective experience. This unique exhibition not only showcases the candid insights of six and seven-year-olds but also encourages us to think profoundly about the future we are crafting for upcoming generations.

Innovative Presentation and Thought-Provoking Content

Cornelia’s latest masterpiece is displayed across dual screens, enhancing the interactive essence of the film. Children, in their innocent yet insightful manners, respond to various prompts, offering views that oscillate between humour and deep insight. From aspiring Nobel Prize winners dreaming of revolutionising physics to budding horticulturists expressing their love for nature, the film highlights the pure and unfiltered hopes and fears of young minds.

The title, a nod to the phrase ‘at sixes and sevens’, suggests a state of disarray, which is fitting as these young voices tackle their perceptions of a chaotic future. The format draws inspiration from the 1964 groundbreaking documentary, Seven Up!, which similarly explored the future aspirations of young children.

An Honour and a Duty

Misha Curson, the senior arts curator at Eden, expressed immense pride in collaborating with Cornelia. “It’s a huge honour to work with Cornelia and to host this film in our Core Gallery,” Misha stated. The film seamlessly aligns with Eden’s overarching mission of fostering a sustainable future and underlines the importance of heeding the ideas and concerns of the young in facing global environmental challenges.

A Legacy of Advocacy

Born in Cheshire in 1956, Cornelia has been a vibrant presence in the art world for over three decades, earning accolades such as OBE and CBE, and a place in the Royal Academy of Arts. Known for her compelling work that often addresses critical social and political themes, Cornelia’s projects are celebrated worldwide and featured in numerous esteemed collections.

Reflecting on her latest work, Cornelia shared her enthusiasm about the exhibition’s significance. “I am delighted to be able to show my film at the Eden Project. It’s all about preserving and understanding the flora of our planet,” she remarked. The film, according to Cornelia, serves as a call to action from the children, urging adults to secure a hopeful, sustainable future for them.

Engage and Inspire

The exhibition will not only be a viewing experience but also a participatory one, with a series of workshops and activities planned to engage young visitors, empowering them to express their creativity and develop a sense of agency. These events aim to inspire both young minds and adults to take positive action towards a sustainable future.

Plan Your Visit

“THE FUTURE (Sixes and Sevens)” is open to the public from May 24 and will continue until November. Entry to the exhibition is included with the general admission to the Eden Project.
