Top UK Airports Ranked: Cornwall Airport Newquay Scores Big on Accessibility
Cornwall Airport Newquay has been recognised for its outstanding accessibility standards, receiving a ‘Very Good’ rating in the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) annual Airport Accessibility Report. Covering the period from April 2023 to March 2024, this commendation places the airport among the top 11 in the UK for providing an inclusive and seamless travel experience.
A Testament to Commitment
The ‘Very Good’ rating from the CAA is a significant achievement for Cornwall Airport Newquay, reflecting the airport’s continuous efforts to enhance its accessibility services. The CAA’s report praised the airport for its dedication to improving facilities and ensuring that passengers with reduced mobility and disabilities are accommodated with dignity and comfort.
Kelly Jones, Ground Operations Manager at Cornwall Airport Newquay, expressed her pride in the team’s efforts, stating, “We are incredibly proud to receive this ‘Very Good’ rating from the CAA. It underscores the hard work and dedication of our team to make air travel accessible to everyone. At Cornwall Airport Newquay, we continuously strive to improve our services and facilities to meet the diverse needs of our passengers.”
The Bigger Picture in UK Aviation
Cornwall Airport Newquay’s success is part of a broader trend in UK aviation, with the CAA highlighting significant advancements in accessibility across the sector. For the first time since 2020, no UK airport was rated as ‘poor,’ signalling a positive shift towards greater inclusivity. However, the CAA stressed the importance of ongoing improvements, particularly for airports that fell into the ‘needs improvement’ category.
Karen Dee, Chief Executive of AirportsUK, acknowledged the progress made but emphasised the need for continued investment in accessible infrastructure and staff training. “Airports work very hard to ensure that those passengers who require extra assistance can enjoy the benefits of air travel and while there is always more to be done, we are heading in the right direction,” said Dee.
Ongoing Efforts and Future Goals
The CAA’s report also featured comments from Anna Bowles, Head of Consumer Policy and Enforcement, who highlighted the importance of making aviation accessible for all. Bowles pointed out that while the absence of any ‘poor’ ratings is encouraging, there is still room for improvement, particularly for airports rated as ‘needs improvement.’
Cornwall Airport Newquay remains committed to working closely with the CAA and other industry stakeholders to further enhance its accessibility standards. The airport is focused on investing in state-of-the-art facilities, comprehensive staff training, and innovative solutions to meet the diverse needs of all passengers.
This commitment to accessibility has placed Cornwall Airport Newquay in the spotlight as a leader in the industry, setting a benchmark for other airports to follow. As the aviation sector continues to evolve, passengers can look forward to even more inclusive and accessible travel experiences in the future.
