Who’s Taking Over the Cornish Pirates? New Ownership Consortium Announced

Published On: 30 January 2025Last Updated: 2 February 2025By

The Cornish Pirates have unveiled a significant change in leadership, with the formation of a new ownership consortium made up of four long-standing supporters and sponsors. The move marks an exciting new era for the club, ensuring stability while driving ambitions both on and off the pitch.

Meet the New Owners

The new consortium consists of:

  • Martin Hudson – A key figure in the club’s history, Martin has been a long-term investor, shareholder, and Board member of the Cornish Pirates. Previously the CEO of Flamingo Horticulture, a former Pirates sponsor, he remains involved as an advisor and non-executive director. A close associate of Sir Richard “Dicky” Evans, Martin’s involvement brings continuity to the club’s legacy.
  • Philip Champ – Founder of Central Medical Supplies Ltd, Philip’s company has been an active sponsor of the Pirates. Already a shareholder, he is a familiar face at both home and away matches.
  • Anthony Whyte – Owner of ARW Scaffold Contracting Ltd, a key club sponsor whose branding is well recognised at the Mennaye. Anthony and his team are regular match-day supporters.
  • Lee Miles – The owner of Roseworthy Farms, a Cornish farming and hospitality business. Lee has played a vital role in ensuring Pirates fans are well-fed and watered on match days, reflecting his deep ties to both the club and the local community.

Three of the four owners are Cornwall-based, with two running businesses in the county. Their shared vision is to drive the Pirates’ growth and reinforce its position as a dominant force in rugby.

Stability at the Top

Despite the change in ownership, the club’s leadership remains steady. Paul Durkin will continue as Chairman, ensuring Pirates maintain their momentum. Also staying on is CEO Sally Pettipher, whose leadership is set to push the club forward in both sporting and operational ambitions.

The Cornish Pirates’ new ownership group brings together a wealth of experience, local investment, and a passion for the club. Fans will be eager to see what this next chapter brings as the team builds towards future success.
