Sand, hills, water splashes, rain and more hills. That was the warning ahead of St Piran’s Revenge 2025, and on Saturday 21st December it lived up to every word.

Hosted by Perran Trail Runners, the annual beach race took place on Perranporth Beach, with runners facing a tougher course than usual. A revised route added extra dunes and more ascent, pushing the total climb to over 1,000ft.

A Tough Course With Big Views

Set against the backdrop of Perranporth’s dunes, the route offered fast descents alongside steep, energy sapping climbs. The dunes sit within a Special Site of Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation, giving competitors striking views alongside the physical challenge.

This year’s course was described as more vengeful than ever, with additional hills added as a final test for those taking part.

Medals, Sea Shells and Podium Places

Known as one of the most cost friendly races in the MTRS series, the event rewarded all finishers with handcrafted medals. Sustainable trophies were awarded to podium finishers, with this year’s prizes taking the form of sea shells.

A total of 25 runners from Hayle Runners took part, recording a number of personal bests and several podium finishes.

Jennie Massey placed third in the 65 to 69 age group. Ian Curnow secured first place in the 55 to 59 category, with Jeremy Stephens taking third in the same group. Jon Eldon continued his strong form by winning gold in the 65 to 69 category.

Samuel Goodwin was Hayle Runners’ fastest male competitor, while Florence Davies-Kirsop was the club’s fastest female on the day.

Timing Issues Explained

Organisers thanked competitors for their patience after technical issues affected chip timing. The timing box failed to read some runners’ tags at the finish, but barcode scanner results were used to complete the results. Runners have been encouraged to get in touch if they have any concerns about their recorded times.
