Integrated Care Leaders Thank Cornwall and Isles of Scilly After Storm Goretti

Published On: 12 January 2026Last Updated: 12 January 2026By

Following Storm Goretti, leaders from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care System have issued a public message of thanks to people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for the way communities supported each other during and after the storm.

Support Across Health and Care Services

Health and care staff continued working in very difficult conditions to make sure people received essential support. This included GP practices, pharmacists, community services, independent care providers, voluntary organisations and unpaid carers.

Out-of-hours services such as NHS 111, 999 and emergency service teams were also acknowledged for going above and beyond throughout the weekend to help keep people safe and supported.

Ongoing Disruption to Power and Water

The message recognises that some people are still without fully restored power and water supplies. Leaders said they understand how challenging this continues to be and confirmed they are working closely with partners to support those affected and restore services as quickly as possible.

Patience From the Public

Thanks were also extended to members of the public who continued to use essential NHS services when needed, while showing patience and understanding at a time when services remain busy and under pressure.

Businesses and Community Groups Step In

Beyond health and care, appreciation was shared for workers in water, power and other essential services. Hospitality businesses were also thanked for opening their doors to provide warm spaces, hot food and hot water for people without power.

Community groups, mutual aid networks and local Facebook group administrators were recognised for helping to keep people informed, connecting those in need with offers of help and sharing trusted information during the storm.

Message From System Leaders

The message was signed by system leaders Susan Bracefield, Ali Bulman, Debbie Richards, Babs Rounsevell MBE, Emma Rowse, Laura Wheeler and Steve Williamson, who said the storm once again showed the strength, kindness and resilience found across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

They ended by encouraging people to continue taking care of themselves and each other, while expressing gratitude to everyone who played a part during Storm Goretti.
