Speeding Outside Schools This Morning Leaves Police Warning Drivers
Speed checks were carried out outside schools in Cornwall and Devon this morning as pupils arrived for the day, with several drivers caught exceeding the limit.
The checks were conducted by the Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team, with Speed Detection Officers from Camborne and Plymouth attending locations linked to local schools.
Checks at St Erme
At St Erme, officers were present with Trispen Community Primary School as pupils were arriving. Two speeding offences were recorded in the 20 mph limit, with vehicles travelling at 26 mph and 31 mph.
Offence Recorded in Plympton
A further speed check took place with Plympton Academy, where one offence was detected. A car was recorded travelling at 36 mph in a 30 mph zone.
Police Reminder to Drivers
Police have again urged drivers to keep their speed low at all times, particularly when children and young adults are using the roads. The Road Safety Team highlighted that a driver is eight times more likely to kill a pedestrian at 30 mph than at 20 mph.
The checks took place this morning, Friday 23rd January 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety around schools.
