Three-Month Ban Imposed on Newquay Property After Ongoing ASB

A residential property in Newquay has been shut down for three months after ongoing antisocial behaviour continued to affect nearby residents.

A full closure order has been issued for an address on East Street, making it illegal for anyone to enter the property. This follows a partial closure order that was put in place at the same address in October 2025.

Ongoing impact on residents

Police took further action after reports showed the behaviour had continued and was having a significant impact on the wellbeing of people living nearby.

Concerns raised included constant shouting, large gatherings, noise disturbances, swearing and suspected drug use. There were also reports of rubbish and animal faeces being left in and around the area.

Police confirm escalation

Inspector Steve Johnson said the property had been a major source of tension within the community due to the antisocial behaviour linked to it and those occupying it.

He explained that the earlier order allowed only the tenant to enter and live at the address, but after this was not complied with, officers decided to escalate their response.

Steve said that by working with residents and partner agencies, officers were able to remove the tenants, close the premises and protect local people from further harm. He added that he hoped the outcome showed residents the importance of reporting issues and that police would not allow such behaviour to continue.

Support offered and next steps

The tenant affected by the closure order has been signposted to relevant support services while the order remains in place.

The order was granted on Tuesday 27th January following an investigation by the Newquay Neighbourhood Police team and Cornwall Council’s antisocial behaviour caseworker.

Anyone experiencing antisocial behaviour or wishing to raise concerns can report it via the Devon and Cornwall Police website. If a crime is taking place, people are advised to call 999.

Those affected by crime can access support through victimcare-dc.org. Support is also available from Victim Support on 08 08 16 89 111 or the Devon and Cornwall Police Victim Care Unit on 01392 475900.
