One in Five in South West Report Lower Energy in Early 2026

People across the South West are already feeling worn out just a month into 2026, according to new research commissioned by juice shot brand MOJU.

The study found that one in five people in the region say they have less energy now than they did at the start of the year, despite starting January with good intentions to improve their mornings.

Resolutions Already Slipping

The poll suggests that ambitious plans for a better morning routine are not sticking. A fifth of those surveyed in the South West have already abandoned their New Year resolutions aimed at building a stronger start to the day.

Many appear to have slipped back into old habits. A quarter admit they delay getting up on a typical weekday morning, either pressing snooze more than once or setting multiple alarms to wake up.

Rather than feeling refreshed, mornings are becoming the first point where good intentions begin to unravel.

Caffeine Still King

When it comes to boosting energy, familiar quick fixes remain popular. Two thirds of people surveyed in the South West say they rely on coffee or tea to feel more awake and ready for the day.

However, the research suggests there is growing interest in alternatives.

Half of those polled are choosing smaller, more manageable changes to improve their mornings instead of attempting a complete lifestyle overhaul.

Around 23% are making one manageable change, 18% are adding a few quick and easy steps, and 9% are simplifying the routine they already have. In comparison, just 6% believe making a significant lifestyle change feels realistic for improving their morning routine.

A Shift Towards Natural Energy

The study also found increasing openness to more natural ways of feeling energised.

A quarter of respondents in the South West say exercise or stretching helps them feel more awake, while a fifth point to music or podcasts as a morning lift.

Almost half, 45%, say they find natural ingredients like ginger appealing as a way to support morning energy levels.

Commenting on the findings, MOJU co-founder Rich Goldsmith said:

“Big, sudden lifestyle changes are often harder to sustain, which is why so many people quickly fall back into old patterns.

“You don’t have to start over, or aim for a ‘new year, new you’ routine, to feel a difference. In reality, it’s the small, more realistic habits that can help build momentum towards healthier routines that are more likely to last.

“Take MOJU’s ginger shots, for example: a natural, caffeine-free kick to feel more energised – ideal for those moments when you’d usually reach for another coffee or a sugary snack.”

Supermarket Silent Disco

To encourage people to make one small, energising change to their morning routine, MOJU recently teamed up with supermarket giant Tesco and DJ Sara Cox to host what was described as the UK’s first supermarket silent disco.

Explaining the idea, Rich said:

“Shoppers grabbed a pair of headphones, took a MOJU shot and stepped into a feel-good micro-moment during their supermarket shop, proving that sometimes a tiny shift – like a moment of movement, an uplifting track and one powerfully punchy shot – is all it takes to help change your day and form a healthier habit. After all, every little shot helps.”

The findings suggest that while large lifestyle changes may be proving difficult to maintain, many in the South West are now focusing on smaller steps in the hope of finding a morning routine that actually lasts
