Vandals target Bugle play area as swings taken down

Children in Bugle have lost the use of some of their swings, at least for now. Repeated vandalism at Charles Street Play Area has damaged equipment and left the site’s operators worried enough to take some of it out of action while repairs are sorted.

What has happened

Cormac, the company that looks after the play area, says there have been a number of vandalism incidents at the Charles Street site. The damage has hit play equipment and raised safety concerns for the children and families who use the space.

Repairs were carried out, but more incidents followed. As a result, some swings have now been removed on a temporary basis while the damage is dealt with.

An appeal for help

Cormac has asked the community to step in. Safety of the children and families using the play area is the priority, and the company says it is working with Community Safety partners and the Police to tackle the problem.

But it needs local eyes and ears too. Anyone who has seen anything suspicious, or who has information that might help, is asked to report it through the Devon and Cornwall Police website or by calling 101.

“Thank you for helping us look after this valued community space and keeping it safe for everyone,” the company said.

The swings that have gone are meant to come back once the site is secure. Whether the incidents stop is the part that now rests partly with the people who live around Charles Street.
