Perranporth artist Angela Herbert-Hodges picked for London show

More than 6,800 pieces of art were put forward. Only a fraction made it onto the walls. And one of the paintings heading for a London gallery next month was made in Perranporth.

Artist Angela Herbert-Hodges, who lives in the village, has had her painting Shimmering Sea selected for the Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries.

Angela got in touch with CornishStuff to share the news, saying she was excited to let readers know her work had been chosen.

Picked from thousands

This year’s show drew more than 6,800 entries. From those, over 750 artworks by more than 550 artists were shortlisted.

The exhibition was curated by six independent selectors: actor and arts champion Hugh Bonneville, artist and scientist Jasmine Pradissitto, art lawyer and collector Jon Sharples, portrait artist Kelvin Okafor, culture journalist Martin Robinson, and Financial Times art market columnist Mel Gerlis.

What’s on show

The Discerning Eye showcases talent across all media. Visitors can expect painting, drawing, sculpture, print, photography, video, textile, ceramic and more.

Angela’s piece is a loose, layered seascape, with a dark headland dropping into bright, broken water beneath a heavy grey sky.

When and where to see it

The exhibition runs at the Mall Galleries in London from Friday 13 to Saturday 21 November 2026. It is free to visit every day, 10am to 5pm.

For anyone who can’t get to London, the exhibition will also be online until 1 January 2027.
