Cornish Pirates Prepare for Showdown with Caldy: 50th Appearance for Will Trewin
The Cornish Pirates are set to face Caldy in an away fixture this Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 2pm at Paton Field. Although Caldy currently sit at the bottom of the Championship league table, a competitive match is anticipated against the eighth-placed Pirates.
Changes to the Forward Pack
The Cornish Pirates have made adjustments to their starting line-up, focusing exclusively on the forwards. Billy Young and Harry Hocking step in at prop and hooker respectively, while Matt Cannon joins Charlie Rice in the second row.
For full-back Will Trewin, the game marks a significant milestone as he makes his 50th appearance for the club.
Reinforcements on the Bench
The Pirates’ bench includes some notable names, such as Lewis Pearson, a second row/back row player on a short-term loan from Exeter Chiefs. Having made 11 appearances for the Pirates in previous seasons, Pearson brings experience to the side.
Joining him among the replacements is Chester Ribbons, a centre also dual-registered with Exeter Chiefs. Chester is set to make his debut for the Pirates, adding an extra layer of anticipation for the match.
Coach Joe Walsh Focuses on Preparation
Reflecting on last weekend’s home victory against Chinnor, coach Joe Walsh said:
“Firstly, looking back to last Saturday, Chinnor showed up physically as expected, but wanting also to show physicality, and a response to recent results, we did just that.
“We hung in there to the end, and there were pleasing elements in our game. It was great to achieve the sought-after win, but we must step up still further this week. Also, for the long journey, we must get our preparation correct and achieve the right mindset ahead of the game.”
Looking ahead to Caldy, Joe added:
“Again, Caldy will bring loads of physicality, a lot of size, and will want to impose themselves in the set piece, so we need to be prepared for that and get our detail right in all other areas.”

The Cornish Pirates’ squad for the Caldy match is as follows:
