Truro City Sign Striker Jack Stretton on a Permanent Deal

Truro City have confirmed the permanent signing of striker Jack Stretton.

The 24 year old joins City after most recently playing for League of Ireland side Drogheda United, the same club as Truro’s other recent recruit George Cooper.

From the Midlands to Cornwall

Born in Burton-upon-Trent, Jack came through the youth ranks in the Midlands with Nottingham Forest before moving to their rivals Derby County.

During the covid-19 disrupted 2020 to 21 season, when matches were largely played behind closed doors, Jack made his senior debut for Derby in a Championship draw against Wycombe Wanderers.

That same season saw a short but productive loan spell at Stockport County, where he scored three goals in five games.

Loans, goals and experience

The following year, Jack remained on the fringes of Derby’s first team and scored his first professional goal in the EFL. A loan move to Carlisle United followed in the 2022 to 23 season, before a permanent switch to Stockport County.

Opportunities were limited with the Hatters, leading to loan spells at Woking and Oldham Athletic in the National League. Last season included a short spell at Burton Albion, before his move to Drogheda United.

What Jack said about joining Truro

Speaking to trurocity.co.uk, Jack said:
“I’m looking forward to playing for Truro. I’ve spoken to the gaffer and he has said what is expected of me and I’m sure I can bring that to the team.

“I’m hoping to bring plenty of goals as I’m direct, put myself about on the pitch and give 100 per cent every time I play.

“I’ve trained with the lads four or five times now and the competition for places is really high. I’m looking forward to competing with the other forwards for a position on the pitch. Hopefully, when I get the chance I can keep my spot.”

He added:
“I’ve looked at a few of the team’s recent matches and there have been some good results picked up, a point and three points over Christmas. I feel like the team is in a good place and hopefully, I can come in and help, so we can keep kicking on and climbing up the table.”

Jack now becomes the latest addition to Truro City’s squad as they look to build momentum in the second half of the season.
