There is a Dean back in the Truro City midfield, and this time he has arrived with a longer stay in mind.

The club has brought Tom Dean back to Cornwall, signing the 20-year-old on loan from SkyBet League Two side Exeter City until January 2027. He is the younger brother of long-serving Truro man Will Dean, and he already knows his way around the dressing room.

A second spell across the Tamar

This is Tom’s second temporary move to John Askey’s side. He first came down at the back end of last season on a similar arrangement, playing seven times for Truro in the National League before heading back to St James Park. The new deal keeps him in the red and black through to the new year and beyond.

“I’m really excited to get started,” Tom told trurocity.co.uk. “I came here at the back end of last season and although it didn’t go the way we wanted, there is now an opportunity to put that right.”

The friendly that set it up

The combative midfielder was on the opposite side of a Truro result only last month. He lined up for Exeter, the Grecians, in a pre-season friendly at the TCS, a game the home side edged 1-0 through a Tyler Harvey goal. Weeks later he is pulling on the Truro shirt himself.

“I know most of the lads here already and when there were whispers of me coming down here again, I was really keen to come,” he said.

Chasing minutes in men’s football

For a 20-year-old on the books at a Football League club, regular senior minutes are the prize, and Tom is clear about what he wants from the move.

“This is a good opportunity to get more minutes in men’s football in the bank and although I played a few games here last season and a few with Exeter, it wasn’t as many as I wanted.

“I will try and come here, to play in a good standard, to try and cement a place in the team. Overall, I am really looking forward to it.”
