If your route home usually takes you along Fore Street after dark, you’ll need a different way through Hayle for the next three weeks. A run of streets through the town centre is closing overnight, every night, while contractors get to work resurfacing the carriageway.

What’s closing, and when

Cornwall Council has approved a temporary road closure under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, running from Sunday 13 September to Sunday 4 October 2026. The closure applies overnight only, between 7pm and 6am, so daytime traffic through the town is unaffected.

The works are being carried out by Cormac Solutions Ltd, and the council’s streetworks record for the closure (reference UF9992305080-ST1-02) shows it has been granted for a resurfacing job on the carriageway around Fore Street.

The streets affected

The closure covers Carwin Rise, Penmare Terrace, Hollows Terrace, Madison Terrace, Beatrice Terrace, Copper Terrace, Market Square, Fore Street, Commercial Road, Hayle Terrace and Penpol Terrace. Between them, that takes in most of the direct route through the town centre, so anyone crossing Hayle after 7pm for the next three weeks will want to plan ahead.

Getting around while it’s shut

A signed diversion route will be in place for the duration of the closure, sending through-traffic out around the town via the A30 rather than straight through the centre. Cormac and Cornwall Council have reminded anyone directly affected, including bus operators, residents and businesses along the closed streets, along with traders needing deliveries or collections, that they should already have been notified.

Who to contact

Cormac Solutions Ltd, which is carrying out the work, can be reached on 0300 1234 222. Cornwall Council’s Streetworks team, which issued the notice, can be contacted on the same number or by emailing [email protected].

An interactive map of the closure and the associated documents is available online, showing the full extent of the works through Phillack and down into the town centre.

Sharing the notice

Hayle Town Council shared the closure notice on Facebook, flagging it to residents ahead of the September start date. With Fore Street among the streets affected, it’s the kind of closure that’s hard to miss once the cones go up.
