Seen from above, there’s a new shape standing out among the autumn trees at Poltair Park. Galvanised legs, a bright red cap, and a tangle of rope nets and ladders hanging off every side.

It’s the park’s new Bird’s Nest Tower, and it’s now finished and ready for children to tackle.

Climb, explore, then slide

The tower stands in the park’s popular play area and gives children a series of climbing challenges to work through, from rope ladders and nets to woven nest-style platforms, before they finish with a ride down the slide.

St Austell Town Council says the structure was designed to inspire active play, confidence and imagination, with a fun and inclusive space where children can pick up new skills while spending time outdoors with friends and family.

The Mayor of St Austell, Councillor Ethan Stephens, was among the first to give it a go, scaling the rope net and taking the slide back down.

The work was carried out with playground equipment supplier and installer TK Play Ltd.

A trampoline at ground level

The tower isn’t the only addition. A new accessible ground trampoline has also gone in at the play area.

Set flush into the surface, it’s a piece of kit designed so more children can bounce without needing to climb up onto it first.

Part of a bigger plan for the town’s parks

Both new items are part of the Town Council’s ongoing investment in parks and play facilities across St Austell.

The aim, according to the council, is to make sure Poltair Park remains a welcoming destination for families across the community. The next test is the one that matters most, how quickly the nests fill up once word gets round.
