Coastguard Respond to Medical Emergency Near Crackington Haven
Bude Coastguard Rescue Team were called into action on Tuesday 7th April following reports of a medical emergency on the coast path north of Crackington Haven.
Call out details
The team received the call at 14:16, after being tasked by Falmouth Maritime Rescue Co-Ordination Centre to locate and assist a casualty experiencing medical issues.
A multi-agency response was quickly put in place. Alongside the Coastguard Rescue Officers, a member of Bude Community First Responders, the Coastguard helicopter Rescue 924, and paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust were all deployed to the scene.
Search and response
Coastguard Rescue Officers and the Community First Responder met at a pre-arranged access point before working together to locate the casualty.
Once on scene, the Rescue Officers supported the responder, coordinated logistics, and maintained communication with both the ambulance service and the incoming Coastguard helicopter.
Casualty taken for further treatment
Following an on-site assessment, the Coastguard helicopter winch paramedic and a South Western Ambulance Service paramedic made the decision for the casualty to be moved to a land ambulance for further treatment.
Once the casualty had been transferred, Bude Coastguard Rescue Team were stood down.
Safety reminder
The Coastguard has issued a reminder to the public that if anyone is seen in trouble on the coast, cliffs or at sea, they should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
