What to expect today

The Met Office says heavy rain is likely to lead to spray and flooding on roads, which could make journey times longer. Bus and train services may also be affected, with delays possible throughout the day.

Flooding of a small number of homes and businesses is likely, and there is a chance of some interruption to power supplies and other services.

Why the risk is higher

A slow-moving band of rain is expected to sit across parts of the region during Monday. While there is still uncertainty around how quickly it will move east, rainfall totals of 20 to 40mm could fall widely, with some areas seeing up to 60mm.

With ground already saturated following recent wet weather, the likelihood of impacts is higher.

Advice from the Met Office

People are being advised to check whether their property could be at risk of flooding and, if so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.

Those travelling are encouraged to check road conditions before driving and to look ahead at bus and train timetables, adjusting plans if needed.

The Met Office also advises preparing for possible power cuts by gathering items such as torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential supplies.

Weather warnings can change quickly, so staying up to date with the local forecast is recommended.

Why the warning is yellow

The Met Office says the warning has a medium likelihood but a low impact, meaning disruption is possible but not expected to be severe for most people.
