Charlie Rice Joins Cornish Pirates for 2024-25 Season
The Cornish Pirates have announced a significant addition to their roster for the upcoming 2024-25 season with the signing of lock forward Charlie Rice.
The 21-year-old Bristol native, who previously made a brief appearance for the Pirates on a short-term loan from Bristol Bears, has now committed to a full-time contract with the club.
A Promising Talent
Charlie Rice, a former student of SGS Filton College and a standout player for the England under 18s and 20s, brings a wealth of experience despite his young age. His rugby journey has seen him play for various clubs, including the Gordano Sharks and Hartpury in the Championship. Most recently, Charlie honed his skills in New Zealand, playing for Sumner RFC, before making his return to the Cornish Pirates.
Coach’s Confidence
Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach, Alan Paver, expressed his enthusiasm for Charlie’s signing. “Charlie is a talented forward who has played a good amount of senior rugby, and we are particularly delighted to welcome him on board,” Alan remarked. Highlighting Charlie’s physical capabilities and his promising profile, Alan is optimistic about the young player’s future with the team.
Having gained valuable experience overseas, Charlie returns to the Pirates with renewed vigour. “Having gained experience playing in New Zealand since he was last here was good both for him and us, as he returns with the bit between his teeth, which is fabulous,” Alan added. The coach is confident that Charlie’s determination and hunger to progress will be evident in his performance on the field.
Looking Ahead
Charlie Rice’s goal for the upcoming season is clear: to play regularly and showcase his abilities. With the backing of his coaches and the experience he has gathered, Charlie is poised to make a significant impact. Fans of the Cornish Pirates will undoubtedly be eager to see how this young talent contributes to the team’s success in the new season.
Stay tuned for more updates on Charlie Rice and the Cornish Pirates as they prepare for what promises to be an exciting 2024-25 campaign.
