Birdwatchers Spot 21 Species at Towan Head Walk in Newquay

Twenty one bird species in a single morning, and the sun obliged too. Not a bad return for a group walk along one of Newquay’s most striking headlands.

Fifteen nature and wildlife enthusiasts gathered for a birdwatching trip at Towan Head, Newquay, joined by four ladies from up country who were on holiday in Cornwall. Seven year old Luke came along with his grandparents, making it a properly multi-generational outing.

A Sunny Morning on the Headland

The weather played its part. Bright sunshine followed the group across Towan Head as they worked their way through the species list, eventually clocking twenty one different birds along with a handful of butterflies.

Who Organised It

The walk was put together by Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, Founder and Chair of Connect with Nature, RSPB Kernow Group Leader, and Publicity Officer of Cornwall Birds. Rob Nicholls led the fieldtrip itself.

The morning wrapped up the way most good Cornish gatherings do, over coffee, tea, and biscuits, with plenty of chat about what everyone had seen.
