Free Bikeability Festival comes to Par Track this Friday

There is a free morning of cycling up for grabs at Par Track this Friday, and a few spaces are still open. The Cornwall Bicycle Project is running a Bikeability Festival for children and young people, with a fleet of adapted cycles to try and an off-road session for anyone who wants to build their confidence in the saddle.

Adapted cycling for every ability

The adapted cycling session runs from 12pm to 2pm and is billed as inclusive cycling for all abilities. Friendly, supportive instructors are on hand, along with a range of adapted cycles for children and young people to try, subject to availability on the day. The focus is on confidence, wellbeing and fitness, with the chance to have a go at something new in a relaxed setting. Families can even look through the project’s catalogue of adapted cycles before they arrive, and places can be booked on the free adapted cycling ticket page.

A free Level 1 session for keener riders

From 2pm to 3pm there is a free Level 1 session, funded through Bikeability, for children aged 8 and above. It is built to help riders control and master their bike in a safe, off-road environment, and to get used to riding alongside other people. Anyone joining this one brings their own bike and helmet. The bike should be in good working order, with two working brakes, tyres pumped up and a well-maintained chain. Tickets are on the Level 1 booking page.

How to get there

Both sessions take place at Par Athletics Track on Moorland Road, Par, PL24 2PB. They cost nothing to join, and organisers say only a handful of places remain across the afternoon. Anyone who does not have a suitable bike of their own can ask about borrowing one, as long as the team is given a bit of notice first.
