For a small child, the difference between a wobbly start and a good one can come down to whether there was time for breakfast. At Landulph Under Fives Preschool, near Saltash, a £1,500 donation has gone into the breakfast club so that meal is there for more of the children who need it.

What the money does

The breakfast club is one of the parts of the preschool’s day that children and parents rate most highly. It gives children a healthy, nutritious meal before the morning starts, which helps their health and wellbeing and leaves them readier to learn.

Jessica Dyer, committee member at Landulph Under Fives Preschool, said: “The grant funding was used to extend our provision of a breakfast club for the preschool children, ensuring they had access to a nutritious meal at the start of the day. We’d like to say a big thank you to Barratt David Wilson Bristol for their generosity!”

Where it ame from

The £1,500 comes from the community fund of Barratt David Wilson Bristol, the housebuilder currently working on the Treledan development in Cornwall, and is delivered through the Barratt Redrow Foundation. The foundation says it has given more than £20 million to charities and good causes across the UK since it launched.

Richard Lawson, Sales Director for Barratt David Wilson Bristol, said: “Initiatives at local schools are an integral part of community life, so we are proud to be able to offer our support to Landulph Under Fives Preschool as part of our commitment to creating new and thriving communities.

“Eating a healthy and nutritious breakfast is proven to improve physical and mental wellbeing, especially for young children. We know that some children may not have access to a nutritious breakfast to start their day, so it’s important for us to support schools that offer not just breakfast but a space for children to begin their day positively.”

The Treledan development is near Saltash, where the train station is about two miles away and runs into Plymouth. Details of the homes are on the Barratt and David Wilson websites.
