In an eagerly anticipated rematch, Cornwall RLFC is set to face Midlands Hurricanes this Sunday in the 16th round of the Betfred League 1, aiming to overturn their previous defeat.
The squad, freshly announced by head coach Mike Abbott, includes both key returnees and notable absences.
Squad Dynamics
Cornwall’s 21-man line-up features Morgan Punchard, who despite a looming suspension from a prior match incident, will play a crucial part in Sunday’s game at Alexander Stadium—the team’s first visit to this iconic venue. Morgan’s participation comes at a critical time, especially as the squad will miss the strength of Kaine Dimech and Harry Boots due to injuries and other commitments.
Adding to the strategic mix, recent loan signing AJ Boardman from Rochdale is poised to make an impact, although Courage Mkuhlani remains sidelined against his parent club. Meanwhile, Josh Hartshorne is back on the roster and could see his first action since the Challenge Cup game against York Acorn in February, injecting further anticipation into the squad’s composition.
Tom Ashton also returns to the fold after recovering from a virus, bolstering Cornwall’s options as they seek to improve their season’s trajectory.
Previous Encounters and Expectations
The last time Cornwall and Midlands met, it was Mark Dunning’s Hurricanes who emerged victorious with a comfortable win at the Memorial Ground. However, recent performances against teams like Workington Town and Rochdale Hornets suggest Cornwall are on an upward trajectory, despite outcomes that have not always gone their way.
Watch This Space
With strategic returns and fresh talent, Cornwall RLFC is not only looking to avenge their previous loss but also to demonstrate their growth as a team. Fans and followers can catch the action this Sunday, where determination and teamwork will be the keys to rewriting their story against the Midlands Hurricanes.
