South East Cornwall MP Calls for Action on Bus Service Disruptions

Published On: 19 September 2025Last Updated: 19 September 2025By

Anna Gelderd, MP for South East Cornwall, is calling for urgent action after weeks of disruption to Stagecoach bus services in Saltash and surrounding areas.

Her office has been contacted by many residents reporting buses failing to arrive, long delays and overcrowding. The problems have left people unable to reach work, school and medical appointments.

The disruption has created financial strain and anxiety for families. Students have been threatened with disciplinary action for missing classes, parents have raised concerns about children being left stranded, and elderly residents have been left isolated without reliable transport.

“Unacceptable” Situation

Anna Gelderd said:
“This disruption is impacting daily life, education, income, and wellbeing. Public transport is essential for our communities, and the experiences that local residents have shared with me are unacceptable.
“The Government has already invested in better bus services for Cornwall, and I call on Cornwall Council to ensure that money is spent in the best interests of local people.”

Calls for Better Services

Anna Gelderd has taken several steps, including writing directly to Stagecoach South West, raising concerns with Saltash Town Council and requesting further meetings with transport authorities.

She has also raised the matter in Government, taking South East Cornwall’s concerns to Simon Lightwood MP in his role as Minister for Local Transport, before his appointment as Minister for Roads and Buses.

Anna Gelderd is pressing for:

  • The reinstatement of direct college routes

  • More reliable peak-time services

  • Better connections between towns

  • Clearer timetables and improved communication with passengers

Evidence Being Gathered

Residents experiencing problems are being encouraged to contact Anna Gelderd’s office. The evidence collected will be presented to relevant authorities as part of her work to improve connectivity, reliability, affordability and modernise public transport for South East Cornwall.
