Cornwall Hospice Care Marks 45 Years of Compassionate Support
Cornwall Hospice Care is marking a major milestone today, celebrating 45 years of providing compassionate, specialist care for people across Cornwall living with life-limiting illnesses.
A Legacy Built on Community Support
Since opening Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell back in 1980, the charity has become a cornerstone of care in Cornwall. Over the decades, it has supported thousands of people and their families with comfort, dignity and kindness.
The milestone, officially celebrated on 6th October 2025, marks the start of a year-long programme of reflection and celebration. Throughout the coming year, the charity will remember those who have been cared for while looking ahead with renewed commitment to the future.
“This legacy of care and support has only been possible due to the community in Cornwall which we serve,” said Paul Brinsley, CEO of Cornwall Hospice Care. “For 45 years, their generosity, kindness and unwavering support have enabled us to be here for those who need us most. As we celebrate this milestone, we reflect on our history and embrace the future, knowing that together, we can ensure hospice care will remain here for generations to come.”
More Than You Think
Paul added, “It feels especially fitting that our 45th anniversary falls during Hospice Care Week, with this year’s theme being ‘More than you think’. Our charity provides a wide variety of support, from bereavement and lymphoedema services to inpatient care and community outreach.”
Cornwall Hospice Care was founded by and for the people of Cornwall. Today, it runs two hospices, Mount Edgcumbe in St Austell and St Julia’s in Hayle, as well as an expanding range of community services that bring vital support closer to those who need it.
Celebrating Cornwall’s Collective Spirit
The charity remains almost entirely funded by donations and relies on the generosity of volunteers, fundraisers and supporters to continue its work. Throughout its 45th anniversary year, Cornwall Hospice Care will share stories, host special events and invite people to get involved, celebrating together and showing the strength of Cornwall’s collective spirit.
