A brand new building has gone up just outside Newquay over the past year, and it is finally ready to show what is inside. Seventeen climbing walls, four storeys of soft play, a gym and a coffee bar, all under one roof, whatever the weather is doing outside.

What’s opening, and when

NQY Rocks, a new indoor family activity centre at Hendra Holiday Park, officially opens on Monday 31 August 2026, right at the tail end of the summer holidays. Construction began last year, and the finished centre is being pitched as a year-round attraction for both Cornwall residents and holidaymakers, open long after the beaches have emptied out for autumn.

Day visitors can book their visit online now.

17 climbing walls, from age four upward

The centre’s headline feature is its climbing area: seventeen walls suitable for climbers aged four and up, with challenges pitched across a range of abilities. Among them are the Leap of Faith, which involves climbing to the top of a wall before launching off towards a swinging bean bag, and the Stairway to Heaven, a challenge organisers describe as not for the faint-hearted. Fully trained instructors will be on hand throughout to keep climbers safe while they take it on.

Four storeys of soft play, and somewhere for the little ones too

Younger children are not left out. A four-storey soft play area, aimed at ages four and up, is packed with climbing obstacles, ball pools, rollers and slides. For anyone under four, there is a separate toddler area built to their scale.

Coffee, a gym, parties and a community space

For the grown-ups, or anyone after a breather, the coffee bar serves light bites, freshly baked cakes and barista coffee, and there is a fully equipped gym open to members and day visitors alike. NQY Rocks will also host children’s parties, with food-inclusive and self-catering options both available, while the Summit Room is set aside for community groups, classes and events throughout the year.

Jon Hyatt, Managing Director of Hendra Holiday Park, said the team was “really excited” to see NQY Rocks ready for its official opening on 31 August, and that construction starting last year had “all come together”. A new Newquay Scout Group is also set to start using the centre soon. “We want it to be a genuine community asset,” he said.

The project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with Cornwall Council managing it locally through the Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme.
