Par Track edges closer to finish line after £5,000 boost

A grant landed this week that pushes one of Cornwall’s best-loved sports facilities well past the halfway mark in its race to save its own track.

A boost from England Athletics

Par Track has secured a £5,000 grant from England Athletics through its Facilities Improvement Fund. The award goes straight into the site’s £25,000 project to deep clean and re-line its athletics track, work aimed at keeping the surface in the best possible condition so it can keep supporting athletes, clubs, schools and the wider community for years to come.

What the funding covers

The track sits at the heart of Par, and the project is about maintenance rather than a rebuild: a deep clean of the running surface and fresh re-lining, the kind of upkeep that keeps a well-used track safe and competition-ready rather than letting years of wear catch up with it.

Closer to the target

The England Athletics grant takes the total raised so far to around £17,500, which puts the fundraising campaign at roughly 70 per cent of its £25,000 target. Par Track thanked England Athletics for the award and for recognising the importance of investing in facilities like theirs, and extended that thanks to everyone who has donated, fundraised, taken part in challenges, bought raffle tickets or supported the campaign in any other way.

More events planned for winter

There is still a way to go to reach the £25,000 goal, and Par Track says a number of fundraising events are planned over the winter months, with details to follow on its Facebook page.

“We’re not quite over the finish line yet, but we’re getting closer,” the club said. “Together, we can get Par Track back to its best.”
