Turn on the radio in Cornwall this October and you might hear something that sounds a lot like your parents’ record collection. Cornwall’s Rewind Radio has announced a brand-new sister station, and it’s built entirely around the decades most stations have stopped playing.

A station built for three decades of music

Rewind Radio Retro goes live in October, dedicated to music from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The station promises a mix of classic hits, familiar voices and the kind of nostalgia that comes with a well-worn record collection, drawing on presenters already well known across Cornwall’s radio landscape. Listeners will be able to find it on DAB+, online, through the station’s mobile app, and via smart speakers.

Who’s on air

The initial line-up covers every day of the week. Weekdays bring Matt Shepherd on Breakfast, Lacey B through the daytimes and Mark Dodson on Drive Time. Saturdays are shared between Adam Carpenter, Martin Bailie and Lee Chater, while Sundays see Liam Shoesmith, Matthi Clarke and Adam Carpenter back on air.

A familiar voice for the breakfast slot

Leading the new station is Matt Shepherd, the former BBC Radio Cornwall presenter, who joins Rewind Radio Retro after 32 years with the BBC. He takes the Breakfast slot and a role helping lead the station as it gets going.

“I’m so excited to be at the start of something new and I can’t wait to wake up Cornwall with the best music ever made,” Matt said.

Martin Bailie, another name familiar to Radio Cornwall listeners with 42 years of broadcasting experience behind him, will front the station’s Saturday show. He put it simply: “Every time a song starts playing, you’ll know the words, so just sing along and join in the fun.”

Why Cornwall’s Rewind Radio is splitting in two

Richard Woods, Managing Director of Cornwall’s Rewind Radio, said the new station is the next step in a journey that began five years ago.

“Five years ago, we launched Cornwall’s Rewind Radio with a simple ambition: to bring great music from the 80s, 90s and 00s to listeners across Cornwall while keeping local radio alive and thriving. Since then, we’ve always wanted to evolve and offer something for every generation of music lover.”

With Retro taking on the 60s, 70s and 80s, the original station will shift its own focus forward, moving towards the 90s through to today’s biggest hits. Richard said the station is proud to have brought in presenters whose “talent, warmth and reassuring voices” add gravitas to its output across the county, and thanked listeners for their support over the past five years in helping make the new chapter possible.

Listeners will be able to tune in from October, for three decades of familiar voices and a soundtrack most of Cornwall already knows every word to.
