Stranded at Droskyn
St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team was tasked at 2.29pm on Thursday (8 October) to Droskyn, Perranporth, alongside Newquay Coastguard. The call was to reports of a person stranded on an isolated rocky outcrop along the coastline.
Getting to him from the shore turned out to be the problem.
“Due to the difficult location and challenging access, our teams were unable to safely reach the casualty,” the St Agnes team said.
Helicopter called in from St Athan
Assistance was requested from Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 387, which is based at St Athan.
The helicopter crew winched the man to safety. They then flew him to Perranporth Rugby Club, where the St Agnes team had set up a helicopter landing site ready for the aircraft to arrive.
The team thanked the club for letting the helicopter land.
Casualty safe and well
“Thankfully, the casualty was safe and well,” the team said.
They described the call-out, logged as tasking number 64, as “a great example of teamwork between Coastguard Rescue Teams and our helicopter colleagues to bring someone safely back to solid ground”.
The team added a reminder for anyone who spots someone in trouble on the coast: “If you see someone in difficulty along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
