St Austell Link Road from Above – Stunning Drone Shots Reveal Progress

Published On: 24 February 2025Last Updated: 24 February 2025By

New drone images have captured the St Austell to A30 Link Road as it nears completion, offering a unique birds-eye view of the £84.9 million project. The road, which aims to eliminate the bottleneck at Roche and Victoria, is expected to significantly reduce heavy transport in local villages once open.

A Vital Connection for St Austell

Spanning 3.9 miles, the single carriageway will connect the old A30 near Victoria to the A391 at Stenalees roundabout. The Department for Transport confirmed £78.5 million in funding on 6th June 2022, with Cornwall Council adding £6 million and £0.4 million coming from Section 106 contributions.

The project is designed to:

  • Boost economic growth by improving links between St Austell and the rest of the UK.
  • Improve access to Cornwall’s expanding employment sites.

Construction Nearing Completion

Construction began on 4th July 2022, with Alun Griffiths leading the work. The road is on track for completion by spring 2025, with today’s drone footage highlighting the scale and progress of the development.

What’s Next?

Once the road opens, the surrounding villages will undergo a traffic impact assessment, with future management measures introduced based on findings.

The project is expected to be fully completed by the end of March 2025, marking a major milestone in Cornwall’s transport network.
