Birdwatchers Record 41 Species at Ruan Lanihorne Event
Connect with Nature’s group enjoyed a successful birdwatching trip at Ruan Lanihorne on the Roseland Peninsula, spotting more than 40 species during the outing.
A Busy Morning for Birdwatchers
The event was organised by Rowena Castillo Nicholls, RSPB Kernow Local Group Leader and Publicity Officer for Cornwall Bird Watching and Preservation Society. Rob Nicholls led the fieldtrip.
Ten wildlife enthusiasts took part, recording a wide mix of species throughout the session.
What They Saw
In total, the group counted 41 species, including:
Blackbird (1), Black headed Gull (17), Buzzard (3), Canada Geese (600++), Carrion Crow (30), Common Sandpiper (1), Cormorant (3), Curlew (31), Dunlin (5), Dunnock (1), Goldcrest (1), Golden Plover (1400++), Great Black Backed Gull (23), Greenshank (1), Grey Heron (1), Grey Wagtail (2), Herring Gull (39), Jackdaw (25), Kingfisher (1), Lapwing (42), Lesser Black backed Gull (3), Little Egret (14), Little Grebe (1), Magpie (2), Mallard (5), Mute Swan (4), Pheasant (25++), Raven (2), Redshank (2), Ringed Plover (6), Robin (3), Rook (5), Shelduck (4), Skylark (1), Snipe (8), Starling (3), Stonechat (2), Teal (1), Widgeon (20++), Woodpigeon (50) and Wren (3).
A Relaxed Finish
The outing ended with tea, coffee, monde cheese bar and chocolates brought along by Rowena.
