Some of these players were seven years old the last time the team got new coats. They’ve grown a fair bit since.

With temperatures dropping and weather warnings already arriving across Cornwall, a group of young Newquay footballers will be staying warm on the sidelines this season, thanks to local housebuilder Morrish Homes.

The family-run firm has provided 14 new winter coats for Newquay Titans Under-11s, replacing kit that dates back to when the children were seven.

A mixed squad with a busy week

The team is made up of 13 boys and one girl. They train every Tuesday at Newquay Tretherras School and play their matches in a Sunday league.

For grassroots clubs, sponsorship can be hard to come by. The cost of replacing equipment and team clothing often lands on families and volunteers, so the new partnership is a welcome boost for the Titans as the colder months set in.

“It takes some of the financial pressure off families”

Richard Martyn, coach of Newquay Titans Under-11s, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Morrish Homes for stepping in to support us. Finding sponsorship isn’t always easy. This makes a real difference, not just in keeping everyone warm and comfortable, but in helping the children feel part of a team. It also takes some of the financial pressure off families, which is especially appreciated.”

Building a mile from the training pitch

The sponsorship is close to home for Morrish Homes. The company is building traditionally designed, energy-efficient homes at Nansledan, the Duchy of Cornwall’s growing community on the outskirts of Newquay, just a mile from where the Titans train.

Established in 1954 and run by the Morrish family for three generations, the developer has residential and commercial interests across Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Somerset. Its partnerships with the Duchy of Cornwall include Poundbury in Dorset as well as Nansledan.

Melanie Richards, Sales & Marketing Director at Morrish Homes, said: “Grassroots football plays such an important role in bringing children and families together, and we’re delighted to support a team right on our doorstep. It’s lovely to see the enthusiasm these young players have for the game, and we wish them every success for the season ahead.”
