Perfume, a set of hair straighteners and a handful of King’s Coronation medals. None of them went missing from a shop or a house. They were taken from inside a police station, and the person who took them was one of the officers working there.

A former Devon & Cornwall Police constable has now been sentenced after admitting three thefts and misconduct in public office.

Suspended sentence at Taunton Crown Court

Chloe Henderson, 29, was a Police Constable based in Plymouth. She was sentenced at Taunton Crown Court on Thursday 5 November, having previously pleaded guilty to the four charges.

She was given a nine month prison sentence, suspended for two years. She must also complete 200 hours of unpaid work and pay costs, as well as compensation to one of her victims.

Five further thefts were ordered to lie on file.

Chloe resigned from the force following her guilty pleas.

What was taken at Charles Cross

By pleading guilty, Chloe admitted that on three separate occasions she stole perfume, GHD hair straighteners and King’s Coronation medals, all at Charles Cross Police Station.

The misconduct in public office charge related to a handbag she took possession of while on duty. She did not record it as lost property, and stole cash and a mobile power bank from inside it.

All of the offences took place between 2022 and 2025, while she was on duty.

Misconduct proceedings to follow

The force says misconduct proceedings will follow at a later date.

Following sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson of the Devon & Cornwall Police Professional Standards Department said: “We are very disappointed by the actions of Chloe Henderson, who admitted stealing from hard-working colleagues based at the station at which she worked from at the time.

“Needless to say, her colleagues’ belongings should have been safe while they went about their employment.

“Henderson’s offending took place over a prolonged period of time and as such cannot be described as a one-off.

“As a force we are committed to maintaining the highest levels of trust and confidence within the community and will hold ourselves accountable when appropriate.

“The actions of one former officer do not represent the behaviour and values of the vast majority of our officers who behave to the highest standards day in, day out, both in and out of work.”
