Truro rolls out the flowers as Britain in Bloom judges arrive

The baskets are full, the tubs are brimming and the pressure is on. After a summer of watering, weeding and quiet graft, Truro has one day to show a national panel exactly what it can do. The Britain in Bloom judges are in the city today.

A national panel comes to the city

The visit follows a successful call from the South West in Bloom judges two weeks ago, and today it is the turn of the national Britain in Bloom panel. Over the course of their tour they will take in Truro’s floral displays, its hanging baskets, hay racks and tubs, and the window boxes that brighten the streets through the season.

The judges will not only be looking at the flowers. Their day also takes in local community projects and the volunteers behind them, the people whose work rarely makes the headlines but keeps the city looking its best long after the judging is done.

The names behind the blooms

Today is a chance to show off the effort of Truro City Council‘s Parks Department, along with the Truro in Bloom committee, the volunteers, community groups and local organisations who keep at it all year round. It is a shared effort, and the displays on show today are the result of months of it.

Truro comes into the judging with a record that speaks for itself. Last year the city was awarded Champion of Champions status, one of many honours in a run of strong results across both the regional and national competitions.

What happens next

Truro City Council has thanked everyone who played a part in getting the city ready, and wished the best of luck to all involved. The hope now is a simple one, that the judges enjoy everything, in the council’s words, “Our Great Little City” has to offer.
