A yacht with no power, a set of rocks and a tide on its way out. One man found himself in exactly that spot at Trefusis Point this week, and it was the Falmouth RNLI inshore crew who came to fetch him.

Pagers go off just before 1pm

The crew’s pagers were activated at 12.58pm on Tuesday (3 November) after a 30-foot yacht, with one person on board, went aground at Trefusis Point.

The station’s Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, Robina Nixon Chard, launched six minutes later and reached the scene at 1.10pm. Conditions were clear, with good visibility, a force 5 easterly wind and a moderate sea.

Well aground on a falling tide

The sailing vessel had lost power and was found well aground on the rocks, with the tide dropping around it.

So the crew took the man off the yacht and brought him back to the lifeboat station, arriving at 1.30pm. The yacht itself was left in the hands of a salvage company to recover.

Ready for the next one

Anyone who wants to support the RNLI crew in Falmouth can do so through the station’s JustGiving page.

The lifeboat was back and ready for further service at 2pm, an hour after the pagers first sounded.
